PARADIGM provided supplementary structural consulting services for the seismic rehabilitation of the historic Oakland Fox Theater.

The Fox Theater first opened its doors in October 1928, and for more than thirty years was a first-rate institution in the bustling downtown shopping and entertainment district. Sadly, as Oakland’s downtown lost its retail stores and restaurants, the theater closed in 1966.

After an intense two year restoration project led by developer Phil Tagami, the Fox opened again as a live music venue, arts school and restaurant—eighty years to the day from its first Grand Opening. The developer’s hope is that the theater’s opening will ultimately invigorate the long-awaited renaissance of an Uptown entertainment district in the surrounding area.
